Verizon vText discontinued, full shutdown by March 31, 2027

A monitoring email that texted you yesterday silently doesn’t tomorrow with no error

⚠️ CRITICAL ISSUE

Every Verizon email to text address (@vtext.com and @vzwpix.com) are being permanently shut down.

Verizon began phasing out these services in late 2024, and the full shutdown is expected by March 31, 2027. Most users have already lost reliable access messages are being blocked, filtered, or silently dropped.

AT&T completed their shutdown in June 2025, and T-Mobile has effectively discontinued their gateway as well. If your business still relies on these addresses, your messages are failing or will fail soon.

# Verizon Email to Text Discontinued. Switch to Reliable SMS

Verizon’s email-to-text service let you text a Verizon phone by emailing `number@vtext.com` (SMS) or `number@vzwpix.com` (MMS). Verizon is shutting both gateways down by **March 31, 2027**, and most messages already fail silently. To keep sending reliably, send to `1234567890@sendemailtotext.com` instead — same email workflow, 10DLC-compliant, up to 98% delivery.

## What Was Verizon Email to Text (@vtext.com and @vzwpix.com)?

Verizon’s email-to-text was a free “carrier gateway.” You sent a normal email, and Verizon turned it into a text message on the recipient’s phone:

- **For a plain text (SMS)**: Email 10-digit-number@vtext.com — for example, 5551234567@vtext.com.
- **For a picture or longer message (MMS)**: Email 10-digit-number@vzwpix.com.

People used it for server alerts, appointment reminders, on-call notifications, and fraud alerts. **vzwpix vs vtext:** `@vtext.com` carried short text only; `@vzwpix.com` carried images and media (MMS). Both belonged to Verizon and both are now being retired.

## How Did Sending an Email to a Verizon Text Used to Work?

If you’re documenting the old method or testing whether it still runs, here is exactly how it worked. Note: this no longer works reliably and is being shut down — use it only to understand the legacy setup, not as a business solution.

- Open a new email in your normal email app or your monitoring/CRM tool.
- In the To field, enter the recipient’s Verizon number plus the gateway: Text only: 5551234567@vtext.com and Picture/MMS: 5551234567@vzwpix.com
- Leave the Subject blank (it often showed up inside the text).
- Keep the message under 160 characters — that’s the SMS limit; longer messages get split or dropped.
- Remove your email signature, or it gets sent as part of the text.
- Send. The recipient received it as a normal text.

This “free gateway” approach is now outdated for any business or automated use. US business texting legally requires **10DLC** registration, and unregistered email-to-SMS traffic is exactly what carriers are blocking. See [what 10DLC means and why it’s required](https://textbolt.com/blog/10dlc-compliance/) before relying on any gateway for business messages.

## How Do I Send a Verizon Text Reliably Now? (The Compliant Replacement)

Use a 10DLC-registered email-to-text service. With TextBolt you keep the **same email workflow** — you just change the address you send to:

- **Old (failing)**: 5551234567@vtext.com
- **New (works on every carrier):** `1234567890@sendemailtotext.com`

No code changes, no API project, no carrier paperwork on your side. You send from the **same email client you already use — Gmail, Outlook, or any monitoring/CRM tool** — and for teams on **Google Workspace**, TextBolt installs as a Marketplace add-on. You send an email exactly like before; TextBolt delivers it as a compliant business text with up to **98% delivery**. [See how TextBolt’s email-to-text works](https://textbolt.com/how-to/send-email-to-text/).

## Which Gateway Address Do I Use? (Carrier Gateway Table)

Carrier gateways differ by carrier and by message type (SMS vs MMS). Here are the major US carriers — with honest shutdown status — plus the TextBolt address that works on **all** of them:

 | Carrier | SMS Gateway | MMS Gateway | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Verizon | `number@vtext.com` | `number@vzwpix.com` | Shutting down, full shutdown March 31, 2027 |
| AT&T | `number@txt.att.net` | `number@mms.att.net` | Shut down June 17, 2025 |
| T-Mobile | `number@tmomail.net` | `number@tmomail.net` | Effectively discontinued / unreliable |
| TextBolt | `number@sendemailtotext.com` | SMS only (one address for all texts) | Works on every carrier, 10DLC-compliant, up to 98% delivery |

On a different carrier or a specialized system? See the AT&T, T-Mobile, or [WIN-911 alert migration guides](https://textbolt.com/migration/win-911/). For the full address breakdown, see our [Verizon SMS gateway address guide](https://textbolt.com/blog/verizon-sms-gateway-address/).

## @vtext.com Not Working? Here’s Why and What to Do

If your @vtext.com or @vzwpix.com messages **stopped arriving, are showing “delivered” but never land, or fail intermittently**, that is the shutdown in progress — not a setting you can fix.

**Two things are happening**: (1) the gateways are being retired (full shutdown March 31, 2027), so delivery is dropping toward zero; and (2) Cloudfilter.net (Proofpoint) filters all Verizon gateway traffic and blocks legitimate business email, with no appeal process. **What to do:** stop trying to “fix” the gateway and move to a 10DLC-registered sender — switching to `1234567890@sendemailtotext.com` keeps your email workflow and restores reliable delivery. The error codes below explain the specific blocks.

### Two Futures

Verizon uses **Cloudfilter.net (Proofpoint)** for spam filtering. Once your IP or domain gets blocked:

- No appeal process exists
- Entire ISP domains get blacklisted
- Messages show “delivered” but never arrive
- SPF/DKIM compliance doesn’t matter

<svg class="lucide lucide-circle-check-big w-8 h-8 text-green-600 mx-auto mb-2" fill="none" height="24" stroke="currentColor" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" stroke-width="2" viewbox="0 0 24 24" width="24" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><path d="M21.801 10A10 10 0 1 1 17 3.335"></path><path d="m9 11 3 3L22 4"></path></svg>

#### TextBolt Users

Messages delivered reliably with upto 98% delivery

#### Staying with Verizon

Service is shutting down delivery rates dropping to zero

Verizon is already forcing your hand. The shutdown has started, most users are already affected, and it’ll be fully gone by March 2027. The only question is how fast you can migrate.

## Why Verizon Will Follow AT&T

The writing is on the wall – Verizon email to text is dying

<svg class="lucide lucide-file-text w-6 h-6 text-orange-600 mr-3" fill="none" height="24" stroke="currentColor" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" stroke-width="2" viewbox="0 0 24 24" width="24" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><path d="M15 2H6a2 2 0 0 0-2 2v16a2 2 0 0 0 2 2h12a2 2 0 0 0 2-2V7Z"></path><path d="M14 2v4a2 2 0 0 0 2 2h4"></path><path d="M10 9H8"></path><path d="M16 13H8"></path><path d="M16 17H8"></path></svg>

### Industry Movement

- **AT&T:** [AT&T Shutting down](https://textbolt.com/migration/att/) June 17, 2025 affected domains (txt.att.net, mms.att.net)
- **Cricket Wireless:** Already shut down, migrate now.
- **T-Mobile:** [Effectively discontinued @tmomail.net delivery](https://textbolt.com/migration/tmobile2/) is unreliable and unsupported.
- **Verizon:** Began shutting down @vtext.com and @vzwpix.com in late 2024 full shutdown expected by March 31, 2027 and pushing enterprise Verizon EMAG

### Why TextBolt Wins

The “build an API” path usually means a developer SMS platform like **Twilio** or **Sinch** — powerful, but it’s a 2–4 week integration you have to code and maintain. Email-to-SMS SaaS tools such as **ClickSend**, **SimpleTexting**, or **Notifyre** are lighter but still mean changing how you send. TextBolt keeps it simple: same email-to-SMS workflow, just change the domain — better delivery than Verizon today and built to last.

## Migration FAQ

**Why are my Verizon @vtext.com messages failing?**

Verizon is permanently shutting down its @vtext.com and @vzwpix.com email-to-SMS gateways. The shutdown began in late 2024 and full discontinuation is set for March 31, 2027. Most users have already lost reliable access. On top of the shutdown, Verizon routes gateway traffic through Cloudfilter.net (Proofpoint), which aggressively blocks legitimate business email — so messages are filtered or silently dropped with no fix available.

**Is Verizon email to text discontinued?**

Yes. Verizon has published a formal notice that @vtext.com and @vzwpix.com will be permanently shut down on March 31, 2027, and the phase-out has been underway since late 2024. Treat it as already gone for any business or automated use.

**What is @vtext.com?**

`@vtext.com` is Verizon’s consumer email-to-SMS gateway. Emailing `number@vtext.com` used to deliver the message as a plain text to that Verizon phone. It is a consumer-only service with no delivery guarantee, and it is being shut down by March 31, 2027.

**What is @vzwpix.com, and how is it different from @vtext.com?**

`@vzwpix.com` is Verizon’s MMS gateway — it carried pictures, media, and longer messages, while `@vtext.com` carried short text only (SMS). Both are Verizon gateways and both are being retired on the same March 31, 2027 timeline.

**Is there any way to keep using @vtext.com or @vzwpix.com?**

Not reliably, and not for long. Both gateways are shutting down by March 31, 2027, delivery is already declining, and there’s no workaround or appeal process. Verizon’s enterprise alternative (EMAG) requires 100+ corporate subscribers and a Major Account Agreement, so it’s out of reach for most businesses. The practical fix is migrating to a 10DLC-compliant service like TextBolt.

**Does vtext still work?**

Sometimes, for now — but unreliably. Many messages are already blocked, filtered, or silently dropped, and the gateway is on a March 31, 2027 shutdown timeline. You should not depend on it for any alerts, reminders, or business texts.

**How do I send an email to a Verizon text now?**

For reliable delivery, send to `1234567890@sendemailtotext.com` instead of `@vtext.com`. You email exactly as before — same workflow, no code changes — and TextBolt delivers it as a compliant 10DLC business text on any carrier.

**Why do my messages show “delivered” but never arrive?**

That’s Verizon’s Cloudfilter (Proofpoint) filtering. Traffic routes through `vrz-sms.mx.a.cloudfilter.net`, where entire ISP domains get blocked, SPF/DKIM compliance is ignored, and there’s no support or unblocking. Messages can report “delivered” while never reaching the phone. Moving to a 10DLC-registered sender avoids this filtering.

**What do the Verizon error codes (AUP#CDRBL, AUP#MXRT, AUP#BL, AUP#DNS) mean?**

They’re all permanent blocks: `AUP#CDRBL` = your IP is blacklisted; `AUP#MXRT` = rate exceeded (even ~10/day); `AUP#BL` = your domain is blocked; `AUP#DNS` = Cloudfilter rejected your DNS setup. None can be reliably fixed — they signal you need a different, compliant service.

**Is there a character limit when sending an email to text?**

Yes — the SMS limit is **155 characters**. Longer messages get split into multiple texts or dropped by the gateway. Keep messages short and remove your email signature so it doesn’t get sent as part of the text.

**How quickly can I migrate from Verizon to TextBolt?**

The actual setup takes about 30 minutes. Business verification for 10DLC compliance typically takes 24–48 hours in the background. You can keep using Verizon during this period, then switch over instantly once approved.

**Will my existing email-to-text workflow work with TextBolt?**

Yes. TextBolt keeps the same email-to-text workflow you use today. Just change your recipient addresses from `@vtext.com` or `@vzwpix.com` to `@sendemailtotext.com`. No code changes or API integrations required.

**Is TextBolt more reliable than Verizon’s gateway?**

Significantly. Verizon’s @vtext.com gateway currently fails roughly 30–40% of the time and is heading to zero. TextBolt delivers up to **98%** through proper 10DLC compliance and carrier relationships, so messages aren’t blocked by Cloudfilter or similar filters.

**Do I need 10DLC to send business texts?**

Yes. US business SMS legally requires **10DLC** registration — the old “free carrier gateway just works” view is outdated, and unregistered traffic is exactly what carriers are blocking. TextBolt handles your 10DLC registration as part of setup.

**I’m not on Verizon — what about AT&T or T-Mobile?**

The same shutdown is happening across carriers. AT&T finished its shutdown in June 2025, its prepaid brand **Cricket Wireless** has already shut its gateway down, and T-Mobile’s @tmomail.net gateway is effectively discontinued. For specialized alert systems like WIN-911. The `@sendemailtotext.com` address works on all of them.

**What happens if I wait until the full shutdown in March 2027?**

Every month you wait, more messages fail. By March 2027 your messaging will have been broken for months. Migrating now avoids the escalating failures and the last-minute scramble AT&T users went through — businesses that migrated early had zero downtime.

## The Shutdown Has Started. Your Messages Don’t Have to Fail.

Verizon’s @vtext.com shutdown is already in progress — most users have lost reliable access, and full shutdown is set for March 31, 2027. Every day without a replacement, your alerts, reminders, and notifications fail more often. Migration takes about 30 minutes and you keep your exact email workflow.
