# Text Messaging for IT Departments: Get Critical Alerts Out of Email

When critical infrastructure fails overnight, email notifications are useless. Your on-call engineer’s inbox is overloaded with unread messages. IT departments lose significant revenue per minute during downtime. TextBolt’s email-to-text service delivers monitoring alerts directly to SMS. Just change @txt.att.net to @sendemailtotext.com.

## Why IT Teams Choose Email-to-SMS for Critical Alerts

TextBolt was built for teams that need reliable alert delivery without API integrations, new vendors, or ongoing maintenance. It works through the email infrastructure you already manage.

<svg class="lucide lucide-replace" fill="none" height="44" viewbox="0 0 44 44" width="44" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><rect fill="url(#paint0_linear_2000)" height="44" rx="8" width="44"></rect><g fill="none" stroke="#2B73DB" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" stroke-width="2" transform="translate(10,10)"><path d="M14 4a2 2 0 0 1 2-2h4a2 2 0 0 1 2 2v4a2 2 0 0 1-2 2h-4a2 2 0 0 1-2-2Z"></path><path d="M2 14a2 2 0 0 1 2-2h4a2 2 0 0 1 2 2v4a2 2 0 0 1-2 2H4a2 2 0 0 1-2-2Z"></path><path d="M7 21v-3a5 5 0 0 1 5-5h3"></path><path d="m15 13-3 3 3 3"></path></g><defs><stop stop-color="#EFF6FF"></stop><stop offset="1" stop-color="#DBEAFE"></stop></defs></svg>

### Drop-In Replacement for Carrier Gateways

Change @txt.att.net to @sendemailtotext.com in your monitoring config. That’s it. No code changes, no new authentication, no migration project. Your Nagios, Zabbix, or PRTG alerts keep working like they always did.

<svg class="lucide lucide-mail-check" fill="none" height="44" viewbox="0 0 44 44" width="44" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><rect fill="url(#paint0_linear_2001)" height="44" rx="8" width="44"></rect><g fill="none" stroke="#2B73DB" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" stroke-width="2" transform="translate(10,10)"><path d="M22 13V6a2 2 0 0 0-2-2H4a2 2 0 0 0-2 2v12a2 2 0 0 0 2 2h9"></path><path d="m22 7-8.97 5.7a1.94 1.94 0 0 1-2.06 0L2 7"></path><path d="m16 19 2 2 4-4"></path></g><defs><stop stop-color="#EFF6FF"></stop><stop offset="1" stop-color="#DBEAFE"></stop></defs></svg>

### Works With Any Email System

Office 365, Google Workspace, on-premise Exchange, Postfix, SendGrid — if it sends SMTP email, it works with TextBolt. Your monitoring tool doesn’t need to support anything new. No plugins, no connectors, no middleware. It just works with the email infrastructure you already run.

<svg class="lucide lucide-zap-off" fill="none" height="44" viewbox="0 0 44 44" width="44" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><rect fill="url(#paint0_linear_2002)" height="44" rx="8" width="44"></rect><g fill="none" stroke="#2B73DB" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" stroke-width="2" transform="translate(10,10)"><path d="M10.513 4.856 13 2l-1 7h5.5l-2.27 2.785"></path><path d="M11 13H5.5l2.04-2.5"></path><path d="m13 22-1-7H6.5l3.98-4.89"></path><path d="m2 2 20 20"></path></g><defs><stop stop-color="#EFF6FF"></stop><stop offset="1" stop-color="#DBEAFE"></stop></defs></svg>

### No API, No Maintenance

No keys to rotate, no webhooks to secure, no SDKs to update. TextBolt runs through email, which means your existing email security still applies. When something changes on the API side, your team isn’t scrambling to fix broken integrations. One less thing to manage, one less thing that can break at 2 AM.

<svg class="lucide lucide-phone-forwarded" fill="none" height="44" viewbox="0 0 44 44" width="44" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><rect fill="url(#paint0_linear_2003)" height="44" rx="8" width="44"></rect><g fill="none" stroke="#2B73DB" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" stroke-width="2" transform="translate(10,10)"><polyline points="18 2 22 6 18 10"></polyline><path d="M22 16.92v3a2 2 0 0 1-2.18 2 19.79 19.79 0 0 1-8.63-3.07 19.5 19.5 0 0 1-6-6 19.79 19.79 0 0 1-3.07-8.67A2 2 0 0 1 4.11 2h3a2 2 0 0 1 2 1.72c.127.96.361 1.903.7 2.81a2 2 0 0 1-.45 2.11L8.09 9.91a16 16 0 0 0 6 6l1.27-1.27a2 2 0 0 1 2.11-.45c.907.339 1.85.573 2.81.7A2 2 0 0 1 22 16.92Z"></path></g><defs><stop stop-color="#EFF6FF"></stop><stop offset="1" stop-color="#DBEAFE"></stop></defs></svg>

### Team Alerts and Routing

Multiple team members receive alerts from the same account. Use Google Contacts groups for on-call rotations. Update the group, and alerts go to whoever’s on duty — no code changes, no config edits, just a contact list swap. No per-user fees, no matter how many people are in the rotation.

<svg class="lucide lucide-badge-check" fill="none" height="44" viewbox="0 0 44 44" width="44" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><rect fill="url(#paint0_linear_2004)" height="44" rx="8" width="44"></rect><g fill="none" stroke="#2B73DB" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" stroke-width="2" transform="translate(10,10)"><path d="M3.85 8.62a4 4 0 0 1 4.78-4.77 4 4 0 0 1 6.74 0 4 4 0 0 1 4.78 4.78 4 4 0 0 1 0 6.74 4 4 0 0 1-4.77 4.78 4 4 0 0 1-6.75 0 4 4 0 0 1-4.78-4.77 4 4 0 0 1 0-6.76Z"></path><path d="m9 12 2 2 4-4"></path></g><defs><stop stop-color="#EFF6FF"></stop><stop offset="1" stop-color="#DBEAFE"></stop></defs></svg>

### 10DLC Compliant Delivery

Business-verified numbers get carrier priority over random shortcodes and shared routes. Alerts don’t get flagged as spam. They arrive. No more wondering if T-Mobile or Verizon silently blocked your critical notification — 10DLC registration means carriers treat your messages as legitimate business traffic.

<svg class="lucide lucide-shield-check" fill="none" height="44" viewbox="0 0 44 44" width="44" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><rect fill="url(#paint0_linear_2005)" height="44" rx="8" width="44"></rect><g fill="none" stroke="#2B73DB" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" stroke-width="2" transform="translate(10,10)"><path d="M20 13c0 5-3.5 7.5-7.66 8.95a1 1 0 0 1-.67-.01C7.5 20.5 4 18 4 13V6a1 1 0 0 1 1-1c2 0 4.5-1.2 6.24-2.72a1.17 1.17 0 0 1 1.52 0C14.51 3.81 17 5 19 5a1 1 0 0 1 1 1z"></path><path d="m9 12 2 2 4-4"></path></g><defs><stop stop-color="#EFF6FF"></stop><stop offset="1" stop-color="#DBEAFE"></stop></defs></svg>

### Pass-Through Security

TextBolt doesn’t store messages. Alerts pass through to SMS and nothing stays on our servers. No data to breach, no logs to subpoena, no security review needed. Your InfoSec team won’t have to add another vendor to the audit checklist there’s simply nothing on our end to audit.

## How IT Teams Use TextBolt for Critical Alerts

From after-hours outages to client-facing status updates, IT teams use TextBolt to make sure critical notifications reach the right person on their phone, not sitting unread in an inbox.

<svg class="lucide lucide-siren" fill="none" height="44" viewbox="0 0 44 44" width="44" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><rect fill="url(#paint0_linear_3000)" height="44" rx="8" width="44"></rect><g fill="none" stroke="#DC2626" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" stroke-width="2" transform="translate(10,10)"><path d="M7 18v-6a5 5 0 1 1 10 0v6"></path><path d="M5 21a1 1 0 0 1-1-1v-1a2 2 0 0 1 2-2h12a2 2 0 0 1 2 2v1a1 1 0 0 1-1 1Z"></path><path d="M12 7V2"></path><path d="M5.45 5.11 2 6.5"></path><path d="M18.55 5.11 22 6.5"></path></g><defs><stop stop-color="#FEF2F2"></stop><stop offset="1" stop-color="#FEE2E2"></stop></defs></svg>

### After-Hours System Outage Alerts

A system goes down at 2 AM. The monitoring tool fires an email, but the on-call engineer won’t check it until morning. TextBolt delivers that alert as a text. IT teams that [ notify their team instantly about server downtime](https://textbolt.com/blog/notify-team-about-server-downtime/) resolve issues before users even notice.

<svg class="lucide lucide-shield-alert" fill="none" height="44" viewbox="0 0 44 44" width="44" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><rect fill="url(#paint0_linear_3001)" height="44" rx="8" width="44"></rect><g fill="none" stroke="#DC2626" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" stroke-width="2" transform="translate(10,10)"><path d="M20 13c0 5-3.5 7.5-7.66 8.95a1 1 0 0 1-.67-.01C7.5 20.5 4 18 4 13V6a1 1 0 0 1 1-1c2 0 4.5-1.2 6.24-2.72a1.17 1.17 0 0 1 1.52 0C14.51 3.81 17 5 19 5a1 1 0 0 1 1 1z"></path><path d="M12 8v4"></path><path d="M12 16h.01"></path></g><defs><stop stop-color="#FEF2F2"></stop><stop offset="1" stop-color="#FEE2E2"></stop></defs></svg>

### Security Incident Alerts — No More Buried Notifications

Unusual login activity triggers your SIEM on a Friday evening. The security team has already left. An email notification sits buried in a crowded inbox, but a text reaches the right person in seconds. Security incidents don’t wait for business hours, and neither should your alerts.

<svg class="lucide lucide-wrench" fill="none" height="44" viewbox="0 0 44 44" width="44" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><rect fill="url(#paint0_linear_3002)" height="44" rx="8" width="44"></rect><g fill="none" stroke="#DC2626" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" stroke-width="2" transform="translate(10,10)"><path d="M14.7 6.3a1 1 0 0 0 0 1.4l1.6 1.6a1 1 0 0 0 1.4 0l3.77-3.77a6 6 0 0 1-7.94 7.94l-6.91 6.91a2.12 2.12 0 0 1-3-3l6.91-6.91a6 6 0 0 1 7.94-7.94l-3.76 3.76Z"></path></g><defs><stop stop-color="#FEF2F2"></stop><stop offset="1" stop-color="#FEE2E2"></stop></defs></svg>

### Scheduled Maintenance Across Locations

A system update affects multiple offices. One email triggers a text to every affected team. No one files a ticket about a “broken” system because everyone knew it was coming. Teams that coordinate IT across locations over text avoid the confusion entirely.

<svg class="lucide lucide-hourglass" fill="none" height="44" viewbox="0 0 44 44" width="44" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><rect fill="url(#paint0_linear_3003)" height="44" rx="8" width="44"></rect><g fill="none" stroke="#DC2626" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" stroke-width="2" transform="translate(10,10)"><path d="M5 22h14"></path><path d="M5 2h14"></path><path d="M17 22v-4.172a2 2 0 0 0-.586-1.414L12 12l-4.414 4.414A2 2 0 0 0 7 17.828V22"></path><path d="M7 2v4.172a2 2 0 0 0 .586 1.414L12 12l4.414-4.414A2 2 0 0 0 17 6.172V2"></path></g><defs><stop stop-color="#FEF2F2"></stop><stop offset="1" stop-color="#FEE2E2"></stop></defs></svg>

### Software Trial Expiration Notices

A client’s free trial ends in two days but they never saw the email. A text reminds them before they lose access. Companies that notify clients about trial expirations over text convert more trials into paying accounts.

<svg class="lucide lucide-activity" fill="none" height="44" viewbox="0 0 44 44" width="44" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><rect fill="url(#paint0_linear_3004)" height="44" rx="8" width="44"></rect><g fill="none" stroke="#DC2626" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" stroke-width="2" transform="translate(10,10)"><path d="M22 12h-2.48a2 2 0 0 0-1.93 1.46l-2.35 8.36a.25.25 0 0 1-.48 0L9.24 2.18a.25.25 0 0 0-.48 0l-2.35 8.36A2 2 0 0 1 4.49 12H2"></path></g><defs><stop stop-color="#FEF2F2"></stop><stop offset="1" stop-color="#FEE2E2"></stop></defs></svg>

### Client-Facing Status Updates via Text

Your platform goes down. The status page is updated, but clients won’t check it until they’re already frustrated. A text reaches them first. Companies that [ make sure clients see emergency notifications ](https://textbolt.com/blog/ensure-clients-see-emergency-notifications/) updates get ahead of the complaints.

<svg class="lucide lucide-bell-dot" fill="none" height="44" viewbox="0 0 44 44" width="44" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><rect fill="url(#paint0_linear_3005)" height="44" rx="8" width="44"></rect><g fill="none" stroke="#DC2626" stroke-linecap="round" stroke-linejoin="round" stroke-width="2" transform="translate(10,10)"><path d="M19.4 14.9C20.2 16.4 21 17 21 17H3s3-2 3-9c0-3.3 2.7-6 6-6 .7 0 1.3.1 1.9.3"></path><path d="M10.3 21a1.94 1.94 0 0 0 3.4 0"></path><circle cx="18" cy="8" r="3"></circle></g><defs><stop stop-color="#FEF2F2"></stop><stop offset="1" stop-color="#FEE2E2"></stop></defs></svg>

### Service Reminders and Renewal Notices

A client’s contract is expiring and the email reminder went unread. A text gets their attention before the lapse. Providers that ensure clients receive service reminders reduce churn without chasing anyone.

Stop Finding Out About Outages From Your Customers

Your monitoring tools already detect the problem. TextBolt makes sure your team finds out before anyone else does. Through a text, not an email nobody checked.

Just changed the email domain in our config and alerts started flowing again. Took maybe 10 lines of config changes across all our systems.

## Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We’ve got answers.

**How quickly can our IT team get set up?**

Sign up and start testing with trial credits in minutes. Business profile verification takes 24–48 hours for carrier approval, and once approved you’re fully live. No software to install, no firewall rules to change, no vendor onboarding process.

**Does TextBolt work with our monitoring tools?**

If your monitoring tool can send an email, it works with TextBolt. That includes Nagios, Zabbix, PRTG, Datadog, Grafana, SolarWinds, and any custom scripts your team has built. There’s nothing to integrate. Your tools already know how to send email.

**Can multiple team members receive the same alert?”**

Yes. Up to 10 team members can receive alerts from the same account, each through their own email. You can use Google Contacts groups to manage on-call rotations. Update the group and alerts go to whoever’s on duty.

**Does TextBolt store our alert data?**

No. TextBolt is pass-through only. Messages are delivered as texts and nothing is stored on our servers. Your existing email security still applies and there’s no vendor portal holding your alert history. Nothing to audit, nothing to breach.

**Can we test it before switching production alerts?**

Yes. The free trial includes test credits so you can run TextBolt alongside your current setup. Send test alerts from your actual monitoring tools and verify delivery before cutting over. No commitment until you’re confident it works.

**Is any IT support required to set up TextBolt?**

No. There’s nothing to install, no API to configure, and no server-side changes needed. TextBolt works through email, so if your team can send an email, they can send a text alert. Most teams set it up themselves without involving IT at all.
